Students sign thank-you banners for donors. On April 30, UM hosted Philanthropy Day—affectionately known as Phil Day—in celebration of the many generous alumni and friends who give back to UM. Students, faculty, and staff jammed the Oval for live music and ice cream. President Royce Engstrom presented the first-ever UM Student Foundation Scholarship to Rachel Hutchins, a junior biology major. Around campus, large “gift tags” highlighted the buildings, structures, and other facilities that were created with private support. Thank you to all those who support UM—you make great things happen!

What is the  Student Foundation?

Created just last year, the Student Foundation is fundraising for students, by students. Each year, the group raises money for the Student Foundation Scholarship Fund, which awards scholarships to undergraduates with financial need. The program’s goal is to foster a lasting awareness and appreciation of philanthropy among UM students.

Look for “Montana Strong” T-shirts in the Bookstore and at special events on campus. One hundred percent of funds from each T-shirt sale goes toward the scholarship.
