Amy Ragsdale’s accomplishments take a while to tick through: degrees from Harvard Collegeand Wesleyan, a professional dance career that put her on stages in Boston and New York, thena move to Missoula to lead the dance program at UM. She managed to teach around the world,start the professional troupe Headwaters Dance Company, and win a Governor’s Arts Awardbefore starting a writing career. But then she and her family stepped off the grid for a year,taking off for a small rural town in northeastern Brazil. There they explored the values ofconnecting in friendship with other people, stretching across languages and cultures.
