Jeremy Smith was editor of his college newspaper, the Harvard Crimson. He moved to Missoula tostudy creative writing at UM, earned an M.F.A. degree, and wrote a book called Growing a GardenCity, which was acclaimed as a top book on the environment in 2011. Then he fell into the story ofphysician and economist Christopher Murray and his endeavors in one of the largest scientificprojects ever undertaken. Murray set out to find what makes people sick and what kills them,looking to span the planet. Murray ended up challenging what we already know and attracting a$100 million grant from Bill Gates.
