Students attending UM now can earn an undergraduate degree in neuroscience, the study of the nervous system and the brain. The interdisciplinary major draws from courses in multiple departments, mainly biomedical sciences, psychology, and biology. The major also requires courses in chemistry, math, and physics and offers elective courses ranging from kinesiology and health to behavioral economics, literature, and dance.

The Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation, a leader in advancing education and entrepreneurship, recently awarded UM’s Blackstone LaunchPad a $25,000 grant to further understand women’s participation in pre-entrepreneurial stages. LaunchPad will use the grant to foster better participation by women in entrepreneurial programs.

Mike Morelli, who has more than thirty years of experience in the entertainment industry, was hired to direct UM’s renowned Entertainment Management program. Morelli spent the past five years in Ohio as general manager of the Performing Arts Center at Kent State University at Tuscarawas.

UM English department Chair Beverly Ann Chin won the 2015 Richard W. Halle Award for Outstanding Middle Level Educator, given by the National Council of Teachers of English. The award honors an educator who has worked to promote understanding of the developmental needs and characteristics of young adolescents, especially in the English language arts.

UM’s Chamber Chorale was honored by the American Choral Directors Association with an invitation to perform at its 2016 Northwest Conference March 3-6 in Seattle. It is UM’s first ACDA invitation and follows the choir’s invitational performance at the National Association for Music Education’s Northwest Conference in February 2015, which also was  a first for the choir.
